This weekend I had the chance to head over to London for Propercorn's Institute of Flavor po-up event, and I had so much fun! If you don't know who Propercorn are, uh 1. what planet have you been living on... and 2. you're missing out. They are the UK's fastest growing popcorn brand and have absolutely nailed it when it comes to changing the healthy snacking game.
This event is the start of their month long consumer focused competition where common folk like me can give input as to what we think their next limited edition flavor should be. The winner.... wins a lifetime supply of popcorn. My life would literally be made!
When I showed up to their Great Titchfield Street location, I was mesmerized by the window display. There was actual popcorn popping into the air... uh cue the boomerang app please. We then went inside, got into our hair nets and super cute jumpsuits... super cute.. and started the flavor creation journey. First stop was Cornography corner. I may or may not have drooled a little at the gold Kanye West popcorn.
Once we entered the library of flavor area through that gorgeous floral entrance (that included the worlds biggest artichokes.. AND the worlds smallest pineapples awwwwwww) we got to work smelling and planning our flavors. The flavors were organized within the 5 taste areas: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Umami, and Bitter. There was seriously every flavor you could think of. I [regrettably] went with Habanero, Truffle, and Mushroom.
Once we chose our flavors, we were sent to choose our bases. Either a sweet base or naked base. I obviously went with sweet. Not that anything could have saved my flavor combination at this point. We then grabbed our little mix of flavor and headed to the next room to get our good vibrations on and apply the powders to our bases.
I absolutely loved being able to attend this amazing little pop-up. Such a fun insight to the history of Propercorn and into the production and thought put into creating flavors. While my flavor tasted absolutely vile, there were loads of interesting flavors people were coming up with! I am so excited to see who comes up with the winning flavor!
You can head over to http://www.instituteofflavour.com to submit your flavor idea. Comment below to let me know what you come up with!
